McDougal Orchards
Nestled in the town of Springvale, McDougal Orchards is a family-owned treasure that’s been cultivating memories, and delicious apples, for generations. Whether you’re a seasoned local or a curious traveler, McDougal Orchards offers more than just apples—it's a full sensory experience of magic and community spirit.
With a history dating back to the 1700s, the McDougal family has lovingly maintained the land, keeping farming traditions alive, while embracing sustainable and innovative practices. Generations of families have made this their go-to spot for fall activities, whether it’s picking apples, sipping fresh cider, or enjoying the vibrant fall foliage.
The orchard is currently owned and operated by 7th generation Ellen McDougal and husband Jack McAdams along with their kids Matt and Polly making them the 8th generation of McDougal family farmers. Ellen and Jack modernized the orchard, while preserving its charm and traditions. Matt and Polly continue to honor the history of the farm, while creating new activities and traditions for guests to enjoy for generations to come. They’re all passionate about providing a welcoming, family-friendly environment and are committed to giving back to their community.
With over 40 varieties of apples, there’s something to satisfy everyone’s palate—from sweet and juicy Honeycrisp to the tart and crisp McIntosh. You can pick your own apples, which is as much about the fun as it is about gathering fresh fruit. And for those who love exploring, the orchard offers beautiful scenic walking trails, perfect for enjoying the fresh air while filling your basket.
Though apples are the main attraction, McDougal Orchards also grows peaches, nectarines, plums, pears, raspberries and cherries. Kids (and kids at heart) will love the corn maze—perfect for getting lost in fall fun, the pumpkin patch, wagon rides and taking a walk through fairy village.
Don’t miss out on the farm store, which is filled with local goodies—cider donuts, fresh-pressed apple cider, homemade jams, and more. If you’re lucky, you might catch one of their cider-pressing demonstrations and learn how the sweet juice is made. When you stop by Capt. Jack’s Donut shack you will find fresh apple cider donuts, cider donut whoopie pies, apple pie (with local Shaine’s of Maine ice cream) & cider slushies.
The orchard also hosts seasonal events, so keep an eye on their calendar for activities like flower arranging workshops, the 5th annual Apple Tasting event with live music, Friday Crafts nights and Golden Hour events on Thursday and Friday. The space is also available for school group, birthday parties, weddings, reunions and other events.
McDougal Orchards is more than just a place to pick apples; it’s a place to make memories. It’s about connecting with nature, enjoying time with family, and experiencing the beauty of Maine. Whether you’re there for the apples, the apple cider donuts, or to breathe in the crisp fall air, you’ll leave feeling like part of the McDougal family.
