Happy Valley Beer & Wine Garden

Just beyond the hustle and bustle of downtown South Berwick on Lower Main Street, a whimsical mural adorns the entrance to Happy Valley, the outdoor beer and wine garden with a chill West Coast vibe and a locally sourced menu of specialty foods and beverages.

Open seasonally from May through October/November (weather-permitting), Happy Valley is owned and operated by South Berwick natives, Roxanne Poulin and Sam Flinkstrom. The couple, who travelled west after college and lived in California and Hawaii before returning in 2020, wanted to bring something new to the community – something they would look for wherever they traveled.

When they learned an old barber shop right in South Berwick was for sale, they saw the opportunity to use the small building and its outdoor space for a family-friendly destination for friends to meet for a drink or a casual meal.
Happy Valley, the nickname for Lower Main Street in the late 1800’s, was perfect for the laid-back, open-air gathering spot by the bank of Driscoll Brook. Since opening in September 2023, people of all ages have discovered this hidden gem with an extensive beer and wine list, hearty sandwiches and more.

The picnic-style garden sits beneath shady trees, with local art @pele_nh and Erica Sedler’s Art adorning its fences and walls. One corner was designed specifically with kids in mind, and dogs are welcome on Thursday nights. @happyvalleyrunclub meets on Mondays at 6 pm, walking or running as a group before enjoying $7 drafts and 10% off menu items. Happy Valley will also host live music every Saturday afternoon in September.
